Calculate Acceleration of Atwood Machine with Friction and Pulley Mass
A block sits on a rough, level surface and is connected by a string that runs over a pulley to a hanging block.
Walk through how to apply Newton's Laws in to each individual object in order to solve for the linear acceleration of each of the blocks. Apply Newtons 2nd Law to each of the blocks in translation (linear motion) and apply the rotational version of the 2nd Law Torque = Inertia x Angular Acceleration to the pulley in order to account for the mass, radius and shape of the pulley.
Setting up a system of three equations and three unknowns we are able to generate an equation for the acceleration of the system.
This problem commonly comes up in introductory physics courses such as high school physics, AP Physics 1, AP Physics C and appears on the JEE and A Level Exams.

Calculate Acceleration of a Single Sided Atwood machine With Pulley Mass | Newtons Laws & Rotation
Переглядів 7412 місяці тому
Set up a system of equations using force as well as torque to solve for the linear acceleration of a block hanging from a pulley which has both mass and radius. Apply Newton's 2nd Law to the hanging block to relate the weight (mg) of the block to the tension in the string as well as the linear acceleration of the block. Then apply Newton's 2nd law in its rotational form ( Torque equals Inertia ...

A ball travelling horizontally at 10m/s strikes and sticks to the tip of a 3kg rod which is 2m long and initially hanging from rest. The rod is connected to a frictionless pin. As the ball strikes the rod, the rod and ball swing upward. In this problem we will calculate the angular velocity of the rod and ball immediately after the collision, the maximum height to which the center of mass of th...
Identify Tension & Compression Members in Truss Analysis

A simple no math method to determine whether a beam / member within a truss is under tension or compression. I showed the forces BY the members ON the joints. I know this is not the convention many people follow, but I find it more natural when apply Newton's Second Law to joints when working the Method of Joints to analyze a truss.

Gravitational Force Due to a Long Thin Rod | Infinite Mass Does NOT Yield Infinite Gravity
Переглядів 5925 місяців тому
Apply Newtons Law of Universal Gravitation as well as some introductory calculus in order to quantify the gravitational force between a point mass and a long thin rod. Taking the limits of this problem to extremes, we will take a look at what would happen if the rod was infinitely long. Interestingly, and counterintuitively enough, we find that even if the rod was infinitely long, and therefore...
How Does Direction of Force Affect Mechanical Advantage of a Lever | Simple Machines

Could you do a video on concrete piles, specifically in the marine industry. Not only do you have forces working on the pile "downward" depending on what is built on top of the pile, say bridge, bulkhead, or breakwater. But what about the water forces (ocean, bay, river or lake) these forces are both pulling and pushing on the pile. Love the video just want to see it in a different way than your standard "truss". Thanks!

sir , T1 and T2 you placed on the FBD of pulley , would be more approriate if called normal reaction ??, as T1 and T2 are components of the normal reaction due to the rope on pulley?

    • @INTEGRALPHYSICS
      @INTEGRALPHYSICS 9 днів тому

the vector sum of T1 and T2 should be exerted by the pulley bracket up and to the right, thus making the net translational force on the pulley zero. I left that out because it seemed like a digression in the lesson. additionally, note: T1 and T2 are not acting normal to the pulley, they are acting tangent to the pulley.

@@INTEGRALPHYSICS hi sir , the tension is developed on the rope only right, and the force b/w the pulley and rope is the normal reaction ??? , how do you directly take T1 and T2 forces on pulleys fbd , or do you draw the FBD of pulley ( including the rope which is in the groove of it )

Transcript: (thank me later) :) I'm going to boil ice water without melting any of the ice. Now watch what happens when we put the beaker in a vacuum and suck most of the air out of this vacuum chamber. Now as atmospheric pressure decreases, like when you go up an altitude, the boiling point of water decreases. But the freezing point barely changes at all. And as we approach a perfect vacuum, around one half of 1% of an atmosphere, the boiling point of water becomes so low that it's actually the same as the melting point, or the freezing point of water, meaning what you're looking at right now is both a frozen solid, a liquid, and a boiling gas all at once. And more importantly, all at the same temperature. This is what in physics and chemistry we call the "triple point". air noises And on that note, that's all for now. swirls ice in a beaker
